Our story started...

Our beautiful, thriving school began over 30 years ago, in September 1990, when our founder and current principal, Sophia, started a small playgroup for toddlers in the comfort of her own lounge.

Sophia quickly developed a deep love for the Montessori method and the joy of teaching young children. Her passion led to the rapid growth of what was then called Little Penguins, welcoming more than 30 children.

As the school outgrew her home, Sophia purchased and renovated an old house in 1999, creating a new space for Little Penguins. The school continued to flourish, and by 2005, a toddler section was introduced. In 2010, a brand-new school building was established in Ludwigsdorf, where the school still resides today.

As Montessori gained popularity across Namibia, it became clear that there was a need for Montessori education beyond preschool. In 2016, Little Penguins proudly saw its first students enter grade 1, paving the way for what is now Keystone Elementary.

Over the years, Montessori Centre has welcomed children from more than 50 countries, many of whom have gone on to achieve remarkable success. Our dedicated team continues to teach with the same love and passion that inspired the creation of the school over three decades ago

Montessori branding

“Education is not something which the teacher does, but a natural process that develops spontaneously in the human being.”
